Santa’s Mailbox Contest

Chabot Fine Art Gallery is pleased to present Santa’s Mailbox Contest! Create the most colorful amazing mailbox for Santa’s mail and you could win a prize! Contest open to children ages 5 to 11. Your child’s “Santa’s mailbox” must be completed and submitted to Chabot Fine Art Gallery by Dec. 13th, 6pm. Mailboxes will be viewed, and winners will be selected, by Glocester art teacher Tara Villanova. Vintage SantaPrizes will be awarded during the Federal Hill Annual Christmas Stroll on December 14th after the tree lighting that takes place at 4:30pm at St. John’s Park located on Historic Federal Hill. Mrs.Claus will be at the gallery to present the awards and to assist the children in writing letters to Santa. All children who enter will be recognized with a small gift. And 3 prizes will be given for the following criteria:

Best use of materials: neatness and craftsmanship is exceptional
Most Holiday Spirit: this box just exudes holiday!

Using a box about the size of a shoebox, children are invited to create a unique mailbox for Santa’s letters! Find a box with minimum dimensions approximately 12” x 10”, please no larger than approximately 17” x 14”. Now – have fun decorating it! You might want to wrap it in colorful paper first; then, use more colorful paper and artful materials to add holiday fun. Materials to consider using: Construction Paper, Wrapping Paper, Ribbon, Stickers, Tinsel, Markers, Colored Pencils, Crayons, Pencils, Paint, Found Objects and Fabric. Please make sure there is an opening in the mailbox for standard letters to be inserted.
– Artwork must be ORIGINAL (no traced, trademarked, or copyrighted characters and slogans, i.e. Snoopy, Sponge Bob, Dora the Explorer, etc.)

Mailboxes should be picked up from the gallery by December 21st. After December 21st, we will be closed for the holidays. Thank you. Have fun!
