“Regatta Day on the Grand Canal”

Many regattas were held throughout the year, but the largest and most famouse was the regatta held on Carnival Day. It is still celebrated today. The old Republi building is in the foreground on the left, which was later called the Plazzo Balbi. The Rialto Bridge can be seen in the far distance.

Artistic liberties have been taken in this interpretation of an oil painting by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as “Canaletto”.
