“The Ranelagh Rotunda Interior, Chelsea, England”
The Ranelagh Rotunda in Chelsea, England was a favorite venue for dining and circular indoor strolling/ socializing round and round the huge furnace in the center. An orchestra can be seen on the right with a young Mozart at the piano in 1764/ 1765. Sound reverberators and baffles acted as modern “speakers” and numerous chandeliers can be seen hung from the ceiling.
Artistic liberties have been taken in this interpretation of an oil painting by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as “Canaletto”.
