Steve Barylick
Being born into a household where music was a constant influence, I developed
a keen awareness of rhythm that was reflected in my design career; and which
now is evoked in my paintings.
It’s as if I trained to be a painter all my life! Sometimes I’ll play my drums prior to
starting a canvas; most often, however, I’m plugged into my iPod. Music is my
sensory paradise and I visualize that sensory paradise onto the canvas.
My painting is unrestrained, original and visually expressive without boundaries;
the plethora of textures and colors along with the asymmetrical shapes and lines
create a vibrancy that’s a trademark of my style.
In my work, I’m interpreting my personal sense of beauty, limitless possibilities,
enjoyment, and transparency. There is no dark secret, no conspiracy, nothing unknown.
The viewer is invited, no, encouraged to interpret whatever they see…could it be an
upward ascent to the sky? a wave crashing to shore? a garden hose gone wild?
Something erotic, sensual or exotic?
The most challenging part? Knowing when to stop, knowing when a painting is
finished. And the feeling when I’m done? Accomplishment.
